5 Birth Centers Boise Embracing Your Unique Birth Experience

Rustic or mid-century modern? High heels or flats? True Crime or Real Housewives? With everything in life, we all have our unique preferences. Our individual style is one of the many things that make us so wonderful! So, when you are planning your delivery, you don’t want the same cookie-cutter options as everyone else. Unfortunately, the healthcare industry has come to view new moms as a monolith. With this approach, they tend to take your voice completely out of the equation. Not only can this be a bit traumatizing, but it can also be dangerous. You know your body, and you should have a say when it comes to major things like childbirth. With birth centers in Boise, you are going to have a space where you can take back your experience and have the birth plan that’s right for you!

What Are Birth Centers In Boise?

There are two different forms of birth centers: freestanding and hospital-operated. Freestanding birth centers are typically run by midwives and will provide you with holistic solutions for your delivery. You aren’t going to find epidurals, but you will find birthing tubs and tools. Occasionally, you will also have access to TENs units or laughing gas. You will deliver within the center and be released several hours later to recover at home. If you do require more intensive care, you will be transferred to a nearby hospital. For this reason, freestanding birth centers only accept low-risk patients.

Hospital-operated birthing centers will still do all in their power to honor your birth plan, but they will provide you with other options should you call an audible. They will often have birth tubs, and some do offer nitrous oxide or TENs units. You will remain here for several days following your delivery and will have midwives and OB-GYNs throughout the entire experience. Hospital birthing centers also are able to accept patients of all risk levels. Whichever option you prefer, Boise offers both! As a Boise family photographer, I get the chance to connect with countless parents who have had their ideal birth experience. If you are searching for the best birth center in Boise, here are a few I always recommend!

5 Wonderful Birth Centers In Boise That Value Your Voice

Treasure Valley Midwives

207 W. Washington Street, Boise, Idaho 83702

Treasure Valley Midwives offers a freestanding birth center where you can have your ideal Boise delivery. The building features two different floors where you will receive your care. The lower level is where all your prenatal visits will occur. Here, you will make your birth plan with your midwife and make sure you know everything well before your due date. Once your contractions start, you will head to the upper level, where you will have a home-like space for your delivery. The center has a kitchenette where you can enjoy a snack (yes, you can eat throughout!) or prep a meal for post-delivery. You will also have a large tub you can use to help you through your labor.

New Beginnings Birth Center

270 N Linder Road, Meridian, Idaho 83642

New Beginnings Birth Center is another freestanding birth center that was founded to give Boise more options throughout labor. This beautiful space has pretty much everything you could need for a holistic labor. You can come in and rest on their spacious bed before heading to the birthing tub once those contractions pick up. They let you move around as much as you need, and you can eat whatever you want. Leading up to your labor, all your prenatal visits will happen in the center, so you’ll feel comfortable with the space once it’s time for your delivery. They also offer midwife-led women’s wellness appointments.

Saint Alphonsus

1055 N Curtis Road, Boise, Idaho 83706

If you’ve been leaning toward an unmedicated delivery but still want options, I highly recommend Saint Alphonsus. While you will be in a Boise hospital setting, you are going to have everything you need for a holistic birth center experience. Throughout your labor, you will be in a private room designed with your comfort in mind. This space has large birthing tubs as well as other birthing tools. Their wireless fetal monitoring will give you range of motion so you can move around as much as you need. You can go for a walk in the private gardens or raid their 24-hour pantry. They also offer accommodations for your partner, and you will have a special menu once your baby arrives!

Labor and Delivery at St. Luke’s

190 E. Bannock Street, Boise, Idaho 83712

St. Lukes is another spot I recommend for parents who want to keep their options open throughout their birth. The hospital is going to prioritize low-intervention approaches to your labor so you can have the experience that is right for you. They start working with you well before your due date arrives. You can sign up for their online childbirth classes and learn all there is to know from the comfort of your home. Throughout labor, you are going to have a birth team to ensure you feel empowered throughout. Once your baby is born, they are going to give you plenty of time to bond with them and will ensure you never feel rushed!

Nampa Midwifery

304 12th Ave Road, Nampa, Idaho 83686

Nampa Midwifery is a beautiful, freestanding birth center that is operated by a team of talented, trauma-informed midwives. At this independent center, they are all about making sure you have your ideal birth experience. They will only use medical intervention when it is absolutely necessary, plus they will ensure you have the ideal environment for your delivery.  Throughout all the appointments leading up to your delivery, your midwife is going to work to earn your trust. Once labor starts, you will feel as though you have a best friend guiding you along. They offer birth tubs that you can use to help you manage any pain. They are within 3 miles of an ER, so you have additional peace of mind.
